At Fundsupermart.com, investors are able to gain access to various fund houses and have a wider range of funds to choose from. With that many funds on our portal, how can you then navigate the website easily to select the funds of your choice?

If you are an investor who wants to find out more on how some funds are faring against their peers, one useful tool you can make use of would be the 'Fund Selector'.

The Fund Selector is similar to a 'search engine' for funds. It is able to help you search for funds distributed on our online platform. The funds have been categorized according to the different sectors that the mutual funds are invested in. In this way, you can make your selections based on the different criteria, following which the webpage will generate a customized table displaying all the selected funds.

You can find our Fund Selector Tab under the "Funds Info" menu option, by selecting the 'Fund Selector'.

When you have reached the Fund Selector page, you will find 4 main menu options. They are: Fund House, Fund Category, Fund Class, Risk Ratings.

Fund House

You can search for funds based on a specific asset management company.

Fund Category

6 Categories of funds are listed here: Balanced, Debt, Index, Fund of Funds, Hybrid and Equity

Fund Class

20 types of funds are listed here: Arbitrage, Banking, Contra, Diversified, Dynamic Asset Allocation, ELSS, Floating Rate, GILT, General, Global,  Income, Index, Infrastructure, Liquid, MIP, Pharmaceuticals, Power, Service, Short Term, Specialty

Risk Ratings

Based on your risk appetite, you can search for funds according to different levels of risk. This can range from 0 (Very Low Risk) to 10 (Very High  Risk).

After you have set all your search criteria, click on 'Generate' to display the list of requested funds. If the generated table does not display any fund, this means that there are no mutual fund funds which meet all your search criteria. In that event, you may wish to try again with less specific search criteria.

Practical Uses of the Fund Selector

Let's go through an example of how the fund selector can be used to view the performance of funds. For example, if you wish to search for the range of equity diversified funds which are being distributed by Fundsupermart.com, what you need to do is to choose 'Equity' from the ‘Fund Category' menu option, and 'Diversified' from the 'Fund Class' menu option. Upon clicking on the 'Generate' button, you will see a list of funds that are both equity & diversified funds. Cumulative performances ranging from a period of 1 week to 6 months are shown in the table. Diagram 2 shows the performance of the ELSS (Tax Saver) funds

Please note that the performances will be calculated on a NAV-to-NAV basis for growth funds only. If you click on any of the equity diversified funds listed, it will lead you to the fund's factsheet, where you can obtain the details of the fund (such as its prospectus, launch date, current NAV, etc.). There is also useful information shown in the table, the fund's risk rating, minimum initial investment, 3-year volatility, Sharpe ratio, returns over different periods, Entry and Exit loads. Next to the fund name, you may check the check-boxes listed alongside the other fund information, followed by clicking on the 'View Chart' button, to view a chart displaying the comparative performance of the different funds.

In addition, you can also make use of the 'Sort' function in the Funds Listing. When you click on the 'Sort' button, you can sort your selected funds by returns varying from 1 week, or up to 6 months. This button will enable you to sort your selected funds according to the criteria specified.

Conclusion

The Fund Selector feature is extremely useful if you wish to find out more about the performance and key details of the different funds you are interested to invest into. An important part of investing in funds is really to understand more about their performances and risks. It is also useful to know how they compare with the rest of their peers, and investors can achieve this to a certain extent by making use of the Fund Selector feature at the Fundsupermart.com website.
