Reliance Mutual Fund has launched a New Fund Offer – Reliance Japan Equity Fund. This is an Open Ended Diversified Equity Scheme which seeks to provide long term capital appreciation to investors by primarily investing in equity and equity related securities of companies listed on the recognized stock exchanges of Japan and the secondary objective is to generate consistent returns by investing in debt and money market securities of India. The NFO is now open for subscription and will close on August 20, 2014. The benchmark of this fund will be TOPIX (Tokyo Stock Price Index).

As per the product note, the advantages of investing into Japanese Equity are:

  • Opportunity to own world class companies & industries not available in India
  • Diversification through exposure to global markets
  • Low correlation between Indian & Japanese equity
  • Benefit from currency movement
